With this scene we attempted to relate the two stories and characterize the witches by dressing the weird sisters like a modern version of the villain from snow white. I have chosen to dress the weird sisters identically, in empire inspired black dresses with form fitting bodices, accentuated waistlines, loose straight skirts, poet style sleeves and hoods to provide a cloak like effect. The outfit in general will blend in with the time period. By dressing them this

Macbeth will be wearing semiformal attire to show his status by that I mean tailored grey trousers, a white button down, royal blue vest with a red cape and plain brown sensible boots. Dressing Macbeth like a Disney prince in lighter shades will make him appear angelic as those traits are what light colours and princes are associated with. This innocence is also the appearance he presents to the outside world and does not reflect his true thoughts. This relates to the theme appearance vs reality and fits with the overall tense atmosphere we are trying to create in this scene for the audience. After Macbeth’s return from war, he is honored as an outstanding war hero and greatly praised by King Duncan. When the Thane of Cawdor is announced as a traitor and executed, King Duncan rewards Macbeth with his title. In this excerpt from Act 3 of William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth, Macbeth addresses the idea that “We have scorched the snake, not kill’d it” (15). The snake is an image of Duncan, who has only been wounded, not killed yet. Using animalistic and life-after-death imagery, implicit diction, and figurative language, Shakespeare reveals Macbeth’s confused and worried mind, caused by killing Duncan and the repercussions that could come after the killings. In the beginning of the passage, Macbeth addresses his fear that Malcolm and Donalbain will heal from their father’s death and his malicious act of killing Duncan will cause Malcolm to use his “tooth” (17) to poison Macbeth.…

In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, he writes the original version of the iconic Witch Brew scene, where the three witches are pictured as “circl[ing] the cauldron”, creating a potion, while singing and dancing to “Black Spirits” (IIII.I.Stage Directions). Though, in Goold’s version, the witches are seen dancing around a morgue, not actually creating a potion, and chanting the recipe aloud. In Rupert Goold’s 2010 television interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, Macbeth, the director used the cinematic devices such as costumes, setting, and actor choices to further portray the witches as not being magical or having much control over Macbeth’s thoughts and actions, but being more human and having the power to influence Macbeth’s…
