Imagine rushing around, excited and overjoyed at every turn. Looking up and seeing smiles and laughs from your family as they watch on. Squealing around every curve with the rush of excitement that you feel within. The warmth of a summer day in the Rocky Mountains, the slight breeze blowing in your face, the feeling of pure bliss, knowing that this moment in time is one you want to remember, a true staple of your loving relationship with your family. Imagine the look of excitement on the face of your loved ones as you bask in the moment. These lifelong memories are formed every day for both children and parents alike at our trike park.
Some of our more fortunate guests may be able to recall a memory like this as either a child themselves, or as a parent or grandparent watching the joy in the face of their family member as they rounded every curve with the enthusiasm to ride for hours. However, due to the current state of the trike park, this opportunity is one that we are unable to share with everyone.

Smothered by the damp heat and hiding from the rain under trees with a damaged dirt bike—how every teenage girl dreams of spending her summer vacation! When my dad proposed a plan for the two of us to spend a weekend riding our dirt bikes through Allegheny National Forest, I imagined riding through scenic trails with no trouble at all. At the onset of our adventure, my dirt bike suddenly stopped moving and I heard a discordant rattle. No matter how hard I rotated the throttle, the wheels went nowhere.…

As teenagers growing up in Powder Springs, Georgia during the 1980’s, it was somewhat challenging at times to find safe and entertaining ways to occupy our time. Even though we did not have free reign to do as we chose, I would not categorize my parents as extremely strict. Relying on our parents, as if they were our personal taxi service, my sister and I struggled to find activities relatively close to home. After discovering we really enjoyed skating, we spent countless Friday and Saturday nights at the Sparkles Skating Rink in Paulding County. The indoor facility was a safe environment for teenagers, which provided my parents with a certain level of comfort to allow us to gather with friends.…

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

"Have patience",exclaims dad every day we work on the farm. Some days on the farm are easy like just feeding cows. Other days are long and hard like pulling a calf at midnight or having to fix something when you need it the most. But every day on the farm is fun and relaxing. I don't like fixing something in the middle of summer on the one hundred and ten degree days.…

Growing up in Vail, I would often ride the chair lift with strangers and they would ask, “Where are you from?” I would reply “here.” The people I shared the chairlift with would tell me how lucky I was, but I would just smile politely and nod, unaware of my fortune. I had grown up in mountains and didn’t know anything different. As I have gotten older and been fortunate enough to have traveled outside of my familiar mountain range, I have realized how intensely beautiful mountains are.…

Every summer as tradition dictates I take my cousins on a hiking trip. Every year we try to hike a different mountain for the day and this year four of us went to hike Mt. Tecumseh in NH. This year was particularly an amazing experience as it was great to spend the day with them all together before I had to go to college. I also got to utilize my iPhone’s camera to its full potential to take amazing photographs (which is a new hobby of mine).…

While groups can be intimidating or overwhelming at the beginning, we want our group to feel like a safe place for our members to come. I am assuming that the members have joined the group as a way to connect with other individuals in their same circumstances. Although joining is voluntary, they might have trouble being vulnerable and getting to know the other members which is why introductions are crucial. Since our foster parents educational group is aimed at people in different levels of the process, there will be partners who have been foster parents before and partners who are new at it and unaware of what to expect. We want to use the round robin approach to have members introduce themselves.…
