In the book the “Snow Flower and The Secret Fan” the relationship between Lily and Snow Flower was made up of love and hate. From a young age both of them was placed in a laotong relationship in which they are suppose become lifelong friends. As years passed their relationship only grew Stronger until one point they break the relationship apart, and walked different paths of life. Until Snow flower passed away, Lily was only able to rekindle the flame of friendship back.
In the beginning of Lily life, she wasn’t care by anyone in her family. Her mother ignored due to the facts that first off she is a girl, and a third child. Lily stated “For my entire life I longed for love…I dreamed that my mother would notice me and that she and the rest of my family …show more content…
Even though so closely bonded they both had taken different walks of life. Lily married with a rich young man that loved her. Snow Flower married a Butcher, which was considered the lowest type of job. In the marriage he abused and beaten Snow Flower. Snow Flower tells this things to Lily but she doesn’t listen. Lily tells her to look at the positive outlooks of life. In this respect, Snow Flower was beaten, gave birth to stillborn. She only has 2 sons and daughter they live beyond birth and even then one of her sons dies in his sleep. Due to this depression took her over, and Lily is telling her to look at the positives. Something she doesn’t have in her life. Since Lily doesn’t listen to these issues she finds someone else to talk to. Lily gets mad because of this and breaks off the friendship. Only 8 years later when they come back together at Snow Flower’s deathbed. Lily finally remembers the love they shared and how bad Snow flower really had it. To make up for this she ends up looking after her children. Making this relationship come back to love once
