The sound of the snare drum made me scared in my mind I thought Please Mr. Zielenski don’t pick me to play the snare… I had known that I could not play the snare drum last year in sixth grade and I wouldn’t even touch one the sound of it was cool, but I could never just get the rhythm right. When I started band I started with a camp over the summer and I was pretty great at playing the quarter notes only. The weeks I tried hard at trying to play the snare, but I constantly did flams (using both sticks and hitting the snare) and I decided that day that I could not possibly play the snare drum. Then this year came around and I decided that it was time to make a change I had to play the snare for band I decided to start with a beginner book and keep going through what I could not play. The snare sounded like a jumbled up mess, of course the three boys that played percussion yelled
“You failed!”
I replied in embarrassment “ That is okay at least I tried.” When I came down from the ryser Mr. Zielinski told me I had done a good job. In my head I thought He is probably saying that to be nice I will try at home. That night I practiced but everything came out wrong so I then decided to give up. The next concert I had to play the snare for Alpine Adventure, but I asked Mr Zielinski if I did not have to and he said that he would let me pass for this time. The rest of the year I did not play the snare drum because I was so embarrassed that I would not even want to touch it like it was poisonous. I kept getting judged by the boys who also played percussion they all would not believe that I could not play the snare drum and how I could never ever touch

Concerning the kinds of material taught, the methods used to produce learning, and the relationship between students and teachers, education varies extensively from culture to culture. After reading Abubakari Lunna’s life story regarding his drumming education, it is evident that the way people present themselves has a lot to do with how we develop relationships with others. From the moment the band saw the sign waving in the air, the mood went from proud of a good performance to buzzing with excitement to play the first stands song. One of the snare drummer who I held my cymbals for (the snare drums play on our cymbals for the majority of the stands songs), turned to me with devious smile. The rest of the snare drums looked at each other as if they all had a secret that they were trying their hardest to keep from the cymbals. All the other cymbals looked at each other in confusion. We didn't have much time to figure out what was going to happen before the drum major started counting…
