Observation Of Snapchat

I decided to observe the social platform of “Snapchat” which is a mobile app that allows interaction through media such as pictures and videos which self destruct after a couple seconds. In this day and age, Snapchat has proven to be a revolutionary source of media in both positive and negative ways. The most dangerous form of interaction this platform enables is momentary keyboard confidence, which related greatly with many of the readings and subjects we discussed in class. This is the concept of people feeling more comfortable expressing themselves in ways they would not in person. I personally noticed a common use for it in myself and my peers as a way to increase self esteem by showing a image for only a certain amount of time leaving less time to really analyze the image and pick out flaws. …show more content…
Another connection I made to this was the more I consumed others’ content, the more it increased my willingness to produce content even if there was no other reason for me to do so. I also noticed that this platform allows quite a bit of information regarding your location, current activities, and peers to be easily obtained and potentially used against you. Over the period of time of my observation, I noticed that if I checked the social media platform in the morning, it would create a strange anxiety within me to somehow want to compete with whatever others are posting or doing, even if it may not be in my interest. Another compelling observation I made relating to how I interact with people who I consistently communicated with over Snapchat is that it made me create a stronger bond with people I had just met or wouldn't be that connected with in real life.
