Smoothie Monologue

Water that is all i want, water. I would rather be inside my nice air-conditioned house, but no, here i am waiting for my sister on the busiest street corner on the hottest day of the year. She calls me and tells me she is going to be late, i tell her to not even bother, i’ll just take the bus. I check on google for the next bus, and it says the bus will arrive in a couple minutes, so everything is fine i tell myself. As i am waiting for the bus, my feet are literally burning, the sidewalk is so hot that i can feel the heat through my shoes. Well, maybe it’s because i’m standing still i tell myself, so i’m thinking about going across the street to Otto’s fruit stand for a nice cold smoothie but i have some doubts because what if i miss the bus. …show more content…
The sweaty smelly policeman is getting tired of her yelling and finally fires back, he starts arguing with her and while he’s arguing all the cars crash. So now i think it’s a good time to cross, I get to Otto’s fruit stand and order my smoothie, I walk past the policeman and his wife again pretending like i totally didn’t hear him say he wanted a divorce. I see the bus approaching the bus stop and i run so fast, and as i’m running i feel like my feet are burning off me. As the people emerge off the bus they start to complain and groan because of the heat, apparently the heat was too much for the crowd that forced they themselves back onto the bus and left me

Fifteen miles in, watching the sun make its first appearance, I could almost feel the high 90 degree temperature begin to shift into triple digits. I couldn't help but smile. The stakes had just been raised. Despite being from the generally frigid state of Michigan, I was fairly certain I knew what overheating felt like before my trip. Buzz, Buzz The cool, crisp wind nipped at my bare arms. The radiant sun glimmered on the damp, mushy grass, as my bright, blue, tennis shoes thumped across to the basketball court. Despite having lived in Georgia for the past couple of years and having dealt with the immense heat and humidity there, I was still unprepared for the heat of the Arizona summer. As an experienced hiker, I thought of myself as experienced enough to deal with the heat and smart enough to not have to worry about it. I would find out all too soon that I was neither experienced enough nor smart enough to deal with the Arizona heat. I left my house at four in the morning, reasoning that since I had left so early I would be able to get out to the trail, do the hike, and get back, all before it became too hot. There was an accident on the road and I had to go about twenty minutes out of my way in order to reach the highway.…
