Introduction

In our daily life, we see many people smoking in many places. I also see them at entrances of our university buildings. At the beginning of my university first semester, my friend told me that she got injured, because her arm was attached to the flame on a cigarette which was holded by the smoker at the entrance in an uncareful way. I was upset about this and started to consider the dangers of smoking, not just injuries but also effects on our health throught an internal body. Therefore I chose to reserch on bad effects of smoking mainly towards the nonsmokers.

1. Central Nervous System
One of the ingredients in tobacco is a mood-altering drug called nicotine. Nicotine reaches the human brain in few seconds. It’s a central nervous system stimulant, so it makes people feel more energized for a little while. On the otherhand as a side effect, they feel more tired and be addicted to nicotine. Smoking increases risk of macular degeneration, cataracts, and poor eyesight. It can also weaken the sense of taste and sense of smell, so food may become less enjoyable.
In case if a person is under stress, he will need more nicotine because there is corticosterone, which is a stress hormone, in the body and it lowers the effects of nicotine. The body requires enough amount of nicotine to proceed the steps for corticosterone. That is why the physical withdrawal from smoking can impair your cognitive functioning and make you feel anxious, irritated, and depressed. Withdrawal can also cause headaches and sleep problems.
