Smoking Policy
Cosumnes River College announces the new smoke policy that its main campus and Elk Grove Center will become a smoke-free, tobacco-free and vape-free zones starting on August 1, 2016. Therefore, smoking, the use of chewing tobacco and other smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated products such as vaporizers and "e-cigarettes" will be prohibited in all indoor and outdoor spaces, parking lots, and college vehicles. This policy proposed and passed by the campus Academic senate and represents the voice of the majority of staff and students. The purpose is that college students and employees can study and work in a healthy environment. Currently, American River College is the first smoke-free campus, effective January 1, 2016. Other two colleges, Sacramento City College and Folsom Lake College will become a smoke-free campus in the Fall 2016 Semester, which is same as Cosumnes River College’s policy. If the ban goes into effect, students who are smoking on campus will be caught and have a severe talking to the campus police. As a CRC student, I support this policy because it is a good policy.

CRC cares about every students’ health. CRC knows that smoking is harmful to students. CRC wants that all students quit smoking so that all students could have a good life. Students cannot study efficiently without a healthy body. The smoke ban is one of the methods to help students quit. It is about to lower the frequency of daily smoking. For example, a student is used to smoking ten cigarettes on campus every day. However, after implementing the smoke policy, the student has to stop smoking when he or she is on campus. Naturally, the students lower the smoking frequency, as well as reduce the dependency on nicotine. Thereby, it keeps students away from the illness that caused by
