One person who I am very close with is my Grandpa. My Grandpa smoked for many years. He eventually quit when my Grandma got cancer. He also quit because he got little grandchildren around the house and he did not want to give us any sort of second hand smoke. This is an example of smoking for many years and not being largely affected. If my grandpa still continued to smoke today then his body would be more damaged than when he quit many years ago. When I was younger I remember a vivid commercial about smoking. It was an older lady sitting in a wheelchair talking about how getting addicted to smoking changed her life. The scary thing was that she had a hole in her throat causing her voice to be scratchy and not normal. As a child the hole in her throat was terrifying and disgusting. Thinking about it today still gives me the same feelings. There are still ads and commercials everywhere today persuading people to not smoke. Every day people see someone smoking, whether it is on a billboard, on a commercial, in a magazine, or someone standing on the side of the street. We are all affected by smoking and the risks it causes. If everyone was aware that 1,300 people die every day from the dangers of smoking then maybe the percentage of current smokers would decline (“Diseases and Death”). Hopefully, the percentage of people who smoke will continue to decrease in the United
