Have you ever heard of the saying “ Too much of a good thing eventually turns into something bad”? Well this phrase closely relates to tobacco. According to Marjorie Jacobs, tobacco was originally used for special religious and medical purposes by the Native Americans in between 600 A.D. and 900 A.D.. It was then grown as a cash crop in 1612.“ By the 1800’s many people had begun using small amounts of tobacco: Some chewed it. Others smoked it occasionally in a pipe, or they hand-rolled a cigarette or cigar.” (Jacobs,1). As you can see, tobacco was originally used for the good of Native Americans as a sacred remedy. Yes there are superficial benefits of the cigarette, like how it helps the economy, the social issues caused by the awareness of the harmful effects of cigarettes and the physiological issues caused by the chemicals in cigarettes, are stronger reasons why the Government should ban them all …show more content…
The chemicals manufactured in cigarettes are too horrifying to in take money into consideration while deciding whether cigarettes do more damage than good. According to documentary “Is there a safe Cigarette? Search for the safest Cigarette| Top documentary Films” tobacco itself is believed to produce a compound that can damage human DNA in certain environments. This deadly compound is called nitrosamine and is formed when the bacteria in the tobacco becomes deprived of oxygen and looks to the nitrates as a source. The bacteria takes the oxygen from the nitrate causing the nitrite to draw to the nicotine molecules forming the nitrosamines. Yes, there has been ways of curing of curing this, but according to the documentary, toxic compounds that are found in the organic tobacco are produced at different temperatures. (Schreiber,20:21)This then leads to the invention of flash bulb cigarette, this made is so that cigarettes would be heated and a specific temperature causing them not to produce all the toxic compounds. This was also tricky because most people had trouble lighting the cigarette at a temperature that will satisfy their urge without causing the cigarettes to light on fire. (Schreiber,39:52) The cigarette Industry 's attempts to create a “safe cigarette” have all failed.
