Smoking Cessation Reflection

Smoking cessation was my semester’s goal but after a few days I realized that goal needed modification into a reachable goal with a specific outline. Decreasing the amount, I smoke with the eventual outcome of changing my lifestyle by creating my own smoking cessation program was this semester’s goal in Psychological Aspects of Kinesiology. Initially, I wanted to stop completely smoking and found that was extremely difficult for me to accomplish. I have smoked for more than 10 years which makes me ashamed to admit. At the peak of success with this goal I had not smoked for about a week and throughout the course of this class I broke my rule of buying a pack of cigarettes once. Currently, my smoking average per day adds up to one or two …show more content…
This would help bring exercise routine in my daily schedule and the use of exercise to combat smoking would be less of change when attempting a behavior modification. I read that before attempting to lose weight a person should quit smoking first, well, I do not agree with this statement. A realistic view of accomplishing these goals needs to understand that while working towards smoking cessation several tools are available that will aid you to lose weight and not use tobacco. Reaching a goal does not have to be an all or nothing scenario but should use small steps that will reach the main outcome of a performance goal. I will use regular exercise, calling a friend or family member who supports me, and self-talk as my short-term goals to help maintain my success thus …show more content…
Therefore, understanding the benefits from setting short-term goals that emphasize process and performance goals will encourage their endeavors to reaching their long-term outcome goals. Additionally, realizing that goals are not as easy to accomplish even with a plan or program will help me empathize with those around me who have trouble meeting their set goals. Humans have imperfections and will not always make the best choices, so, the ability to except that and the will to continue regardless of success will help me in future situations in relation to goal setting. The most important thing when faced with failures or mistakes is perseverance and knowing that success comes from hard work. Most individual’s will not reach their goal on their first attempt but having the will to continue even after failure will help their goal success. I am not stopping my goal of living a smoke-free lifestyle and know that if I set short-term goals these steps will eventually reach smoking
