Did you know, that smoking can increase lung cancer in men by twenty-five times? Smoking became popular in the 1900’s, but in 1965 smoking took a peak in the United States. Fifty percent of men and thirty-three percent of women started smoking (“Health Effects…”). With any kind of smoking there are major effects to the people smoking and the people around. You might hear from your parents all the time that smoking is bad and you should never start smoking. But do they try to stop? Probably not, but here are reasons why you should not start. People should stop or not start smoking due to how it affects nonsmokers, how many diseases it causes, the cost of cigarettes, and the effects it has on your house.
Being around secondhand smoke is worse for you than actually smoking the cigarette itself. When smokers are smoking they do not breath in all of the bad toxins from the cigarettes, because when they breath in the smoke goes through a filter before reaching to their mouth. For example the smoke that comes from the opposite end of the cigarette that you do not inhale is not filtered and when you light a cigarette it

Even though smoking has gone down, there are many people who are still finding out that they have a cancer from a smoking product. The leading cause of lung disease is from smoking or secondhand smoking. There are so many cancers that you are putting your body at risk when smoking cigarettes, many more than what is in this paper. Cigarettes cost a good amount of money, and tax only keeps going up. The smoke from the cigarettes can leave your house and car very dirty and dusty, which just leads to you cleaning more frequently.
