Smoking ban is when our country implement a restriction to smoking in public places that does not support smoking. In fact tobacco smoking contains over 7,000 chemicals, over hundreds that are toxic and approximately 70 that can causes cancer (Secondhand Smoke (SHS) Facts, 2015). In public places, I find myself walking by many designated smoking area all the time. These designated smoking area may prevent smokers from smoking next to nonsmokers, but it does not change the fact that nonsmokers are still inhaling the smoke. This is a huge problem because air pollution is deadly to the adult population, but more deadly to children and elderly with a weak immune system. Secondly, not only smoking in public is harmful when second hand smoking, but also harmful to the environment when littering the remaining filter. The cigarette butts are very difficult to clean and it contains toxic chemicals. To finish, Tobacco Control reported that the air pollution from cigarettes are ten times greater than diesel car exhaust (“Cigarette smoke produces”, 2004). Therefore, if certain harmful substances are illegal then a nationwide smoking ban of public smoking should help eliminate serious health conditions due to cigarettes for the people and the environment.
Secondhand smoke causes the same health issues to nonsmokers and smokers. People that do not want to have health problems due to secondhand smoke should be treated fairly. “It causes heart disease and lung cancer in nonsmoking adults…
