Chain reasoning is the arranged sequence of steps and the ability to analyze information and come to a conclusion. Krathwohl (2009) also defined chain of reasoning as when the sequence of article sections corresponds to what is known as prototypical. For example, arguments can have more than two layers. It is applied in writing articles such as research works. An illustration of this is a research study conducted to determine that neither sales nor employment was affected when smoke-free regulations are put in place. However, the question is: Whether this published research work “New York’s Smoke-Free Regulations: Effects on Employment and Sales in the Hospital Industry” mapped out the chain of reasoning proposed by Krathwohl (2009).

Authors’ Justification for the Selected Methodology and Design The methodology and design for this study were chosen to meet standard of businesses that are classified into a particular business according to the code reported on income-tax returns that is used by the Federal Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) coding system. This would also satisfy a standard that any business that pays employees in a quarter submits a report to the NYSDOL. However, this states the number of employees it had during the quarter. Also the research should be conducted in such a manner that employment and taxable-sales used to example the economic effect of smoke-free regulation will no longer be subjected to limitations.
