A Smiles Study was a project to determine the general emotional intelligence of different age groups. Three volunteers in three different age groups, the children, teenagers, and adults, were asked which out of a pair of pictures depicting people smiling were real. This was meant to be a guidance to the adolescent audience as a place to understand what age group may be supportive and reliable in seeking emotional help. Being a teenager and experiencing the emotional turmoil that goes along with significant relationships, responsibilities, and overall change, it is important to know who to confide in, and knowing what age group was averagely the most emotionally intelligent would help in that decision.
It was predicted that of the three age groups, the oldest age group (adults) would be the best a recognizing real versus fake smiles. Following simple logic, with more practice and experience should come the betterment

The child age group responded to the female faces in particular, and the adult group did not guess the masculine smiles correctly at all. The teenage age group did the best. Averaging on a 2.34 out of 3 correct guess rate, they were just above the children with a 2 out of 3 average. In future studies, a more diverse testing sample would be preferred. All subjects were acquaintances of the tester and consisted of many females, many caucasian people, and all who knew what the study was testing. Interesting research may include testing different genders, ethnicities, and age groups with similarly grouped photographed people, and the overall effect on similar social groups with reading emotions. This was an immensly interesting project, and one that surprised me as a tester. I was certain that adults would perform better than any in the test, but I was proven wrong. This would be great to test again, and I look forward to studying emotional intelligence in other

In the image is everything world that we live in today, it is refreshing to hear a song that speaks to what America likes to call one’s inner beauty. J.Coles’s commercial hit "Crooked Smile" written by Cole and Meleni Smith has a profound meaning that delivers a refreshingly ground breaking new message. In the uplifting song, Cole uses his own crooked smile as an example of how not to view an imperfection as a flaw but as a symbol of originality and individualism. Instead of dwelling on the crookedness of his own smile, he focused on the inner qualities that would help him move forward.…

Dorian Darden Professor L. Brooks COMP 105 3 December 2014 Paper 5 Have you ever been walking along a street and seen a person that caught your eye? You are not exactly sure why they have, you have never talked to them or even made contact of any kind yet you feel an attraction to them. Unbeknownst to you, your brain has made a snap judgement based off of “thin-slicing”. The book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking by Malcolm Gladwell explores this idea of thin-slicing. Blink is divided into chapters that all begin with an anecdote that is supposed to introduce the main idea and after he dissects the anecdote so the reader can fully understand why it was chosen while seamlessly adding more information for the reader to digest.…

The experimenters presented three possible reasons as to why their results did not show differences while others did. The first being that in this experiment they did a between-subjects design so all the participants were only exposed to that one picture/smile. If they had done a within-subjects design like in the other studies, participants may have picked up on differences when comparing the multiple photos. The second reason was that in this experiment the judges…

One day, you are eating dinner with your friend and you ask her opinion about your newly bought dress. Guess what, her reply is only: “It’s pretty nice” without a smile or any kind of facial expression. Yes, it’s very awkward. But on the other hand, you might assume that she doesn’t like your dress. Neither to a person we know nor a stranger, we expect the standard reply which it should be complementary with a smile; we called it courtesy.…

The dynamics of the political sphere is largely dependent on the power structure and form of government in the state. Authoritarianism occurs when citizens conform to extreme obedience and submission to their leaders (Altemeyer, 2006), coined as Right Wing Authoritarian (RWA) followers. Unstructured and dynamic group was formed and captured via multiple cameras. Social attention features are excellent predictors of the Extraversion and Neuroticism personality traits. Results of the experiment showed that while prediction performance for both traits is affected by head pose estimation errors, the impact…
