There are two types of smiles. One type of smile is the genuine smile. It is our normal everyday smile. We use this smile when we are happy, when someone makes us laugh, or when someone is having fun. Another name for the genuine smile is the Duchenne smile. The other type of smile is social smile. Social smiles use only your mouth muscles. The social smile is a fake smile. People have used the social smile to be polite. Scientists discovered that the two types of smiling, social and Duchenne, use two totally different parts of our brain.
