I have learned many things from knowing him for so long, such as: he has Downs Syndrome, he loves pizza, his favorite color is red, and he loves to make people smile and laugh. Meeting Evan positively changed the course of my life because it taught me not to be prejudice, the importance of being a volunteer, and has lead me to wanting to be a Special Education teacher. I want to be a special education teacher because I enjoy working with children with disabilities. During elementary school when I was working with Evan during class I realized that I needed to make the lesson something new and fun for him to remember each thing and for him to focus. We used the game bingo very often for lessons. Bingo was good for math and for vocabulary. One time during fourth grade we were out in the hallway reading books and one of Evans friends, Mackie, came and joined us. The longer we sat out there the more students came out to listen. Reading a story and using different voices for each character is what often made the students remember what happened during the story and to each character. My main goals while being a special education teacher is to make a positive impact on their lives and helping someone else reach their full potential, and teaching them how to grow and being there each time when they learn a new skill is something to be proud of.
Not being prejudice can lead you to so many amazing opportunities and people. Volunteering is a great way to work with one another and to know that you could make a difference in somebody’s life. Special education is great to me because I know that I am helping someone and they are making an impact on my life is a great feeling. Who would have thought that the first person you become friends with could make such

I saw how teachers treated students in special education so different than those who weren’t, that was my biggest fear, however, I was brought to ease knowing I would still get help without having the “stigma” of being in a special education classroom. I was wrong. With my teachers knowing of my disabilities, it was almost like they couldn't help themselves and made it very obvious to my classmates that I was different than them. What my teachers didn't realize is that the extra strategies that I had been working on at home to advance my learning, was also helping my peers as I would suggest things while in group work to help a student better understand the subject at hand, just so they could turn around and be praised by the teacher giving me no…
