It’s difficult to admit, but smartphones are just one of the technological necessities of life whether you like it or not. Surveys conducted all throughout 2018 show that a majority of Americans - 95% - have some sort of cellphone and that now 77% of Americans own a type of smartphone. If you look around, it is obvious that our world is dominated by technology; our daily lives revolve around the screens ensconced in our jackets, pant-pockets.
The question is prevalent and the topic is heated. Are smartphones making us more alone? It’s not difficult to wonder why people would ask this. Everyone has been victim to the slow and gradual intrusion of smartphones into group activities or any meetup with any person, whether you know them or not. Although looking back on it, it seems bad, when you are sitting at the table with friends and someone whips out their phone and starts browsing the newest stories on Snapchat, you subconsciously tend to do the same.

What’s the point of meeting up with a friend to say hi while you can just text them? That is what is for, right?
