Effects of the Smartphone Since the first smartphone was introduced way back in 1992 by IBM and when the first iPhone was introduced in 2007 there has been nothing but upgrades in the smartphone world. The opportunities on these devices are nearly endless, from being able to run a business in the palm of your hand to being able get in touch with someone halfway around the world. When discussing the topic of smartphones, individuals often wonder how it has affected society today. The notion of its effects on personal health, social life, and their impact on on the business world are major topics of concern. When pondering the idea of whether the smartphone has increased or decreased a so called social life it is difficult to draw a conclusion. There is no doubt that the smartphone has made it easier to communicate with almost anyone and have great exposure to the latest trends. Smart phones are popular among people for the applications they offer to the users (trffcmedia). They are popular because information is so quick and up-to-the-minute. Most people use their smartphones to have entertainment and to be connected with people all over the world through social media apps. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are such examples of apps that can help people get connected with others all of the world and be social on their smartphones. While these are all great things about smartphones, there are individuals who abuse the use of them and minimize their social interaction outside of the smartphone. Some individuals will argue that too much usage of smartphones minimizes manual interaction (trffcmedia). There are a majority of individuals in the world today that would rather text, call or get in touch over social media than go talk to the person in real life. Like most anything nowadays individuals can become addicted to their smartphones. The smartphone has had both a positive and negative impact on the work world. A main thing on the positive side is that it is way easier to communicate with employers and employees at any time. You can also do conference calls over smartphones if you are someplace without your laptop or work computer. Another plus for businesses is social media advertising. Businesses are able to reach a more broad audience due to social media. They are able to get information out faster than ever before due to the fact that almost everyone has some sort of social media account. Some businesses are only around because of the smartphone. There would be no business for app developers, bloggers, and many more if the smartphone did not exist. On the negative side of things there is less face-to-face or manual interaction between employers and employees because of the smartphone.
