Smart Phone Addiction By Jesse Brown Analysis

Jesse Brown’s (2012) article “Who says smart phone addiction is a bad thing? The case for constant connectivity” published on the Toronto Life website. Brown argues that smart phone addiction does not have to cause a negative effect to people’s lives rather it can provide a positive effect. His argument provided historical, facts, statistics and anecdotal evidence to back up his reasons. However, I agree with his position that smart phone displays a positive effect, but I disagree that smartphone addiction can be a problem.
In Brown’s article, he argues that smart phone addiction does not have to cause a negative effect. There are surveys conducted asking Americans and employed smart phone users to determine the places where they most use

He furthers on argues, we can live without our phone, but it would be unnecessary to not have it because we would feel bored, less productive, and less capable. Brown also argues that people view smart phone as ways that have disconnect us from realities and that we are addicted to the virtual realities from our smart phone. In addition, he argues that we may have a hard time refraining ourselves from using our smart phone. So, he suggested some solutions that can help us decrease the addiction from our smart phone. Brown concluded that if we do not make the best use of our smart phone, then we should not blame our phone for causing the addiction.
In Brown’s argument, he fails to provide examples of the pros of smart phone addiction. He gives reasons about the negative effects that causes us to be attached to our smart phone from research surveys and why smart phone is useful for us but he did not give detailed examples and reasoning to why smart phone addiction is good. However, with this being said Brown has many strong evidence to back up his reasons why smart phone addiction display a positive effect. Smart phone have now became a part of our lives, we are constantly spending most of our time checking our phone. Everywhere I go I see people on the bus, in school hallways, waiting for their class, on their phone scrolling through social media, texting their friends, or playing games on their smart phones. Smart phone has helps us support our daily activities by providing an easy and fast way to let us connect and communicate with our family, friends and workers. It allows us to connect with them through calls, text messages, social media and many more. However, people spend most of their time checking social media like Twitter or Facebook causing us to be distant from the people that are in front of us. The second reason, is that with smart phone has create an effective way to help us have quick access to the internet. For example, it helps students learn by searching up information that is told by their teachers when they don’t have other access to technology such as laptops, or computers.On the other hand, excessive usage of our smartphone can prevent us from focusing on tasks that we are supposed to do like completing an assignment, or driving. The third reason, is that it is important to get connected to what is going on. Most people don’t watch TV anymore since there are social media that can keep you updated on recent news. For example,
