Smart Kid Classes

Improved Essays
In Elementary School, learning was so important to me, but I was never in any of the "smart kid" classes. I was still so motivated and I never got in trouble. As I got into my middle school years I began to hate school and learning. I was getting into trouble almost everyday for disrupting class. My grades were plummeting, and I did not feel like myself anymore. I got diagnosed with ADHD during this time and it upset me very much, but it also reassured me that I am not disrespectful on purpose. I took this diagnosis as an opportunity change. I stayed after school everyday to work with my teachers and that saved my grades. I needed to fix my in class attitude too, so I asked my teachers to change my seats away from my friends, but even then

As high school progressed, so did my GPA and the rigor of the courses I was taking. I set aside what I could not control and focused on what I could. With the help of some incredible teachers, my passion for science blossomed and my drive to get good grades, take challenging courses, and explore my passion for science grew. It was an honest passion interest and love for learning, not something forced upon me by my parents or my school. I think for many high school students their schedule and classes become something that will make their parents happy or look good on college transcripts, but it is something so much more for me.…

The Educational, Professional and personal Road of Danielle Jackson Education has always been somewhat of a challenge for me. I recall at an early age struggling to keep up with the other children in the class in fact I was held back a year. I recall being teased by the other children in my class for having to go to what was called the special education class where I was helped with reading and math. They discovered I had a condition called dyslexia. Work was challenging; however, becoming aware of my condition I was able to better understand my difficulties and not be so hard on myself.…

This soon led to boredom and lack of motivation in school. My second grade teacher, Ms. Guerrero, noticed how incredibly bored I was in class and urged me and my parents to have a parent-teacher conference. Seeing how my mother worked in that same school we had the conference right after school. It was a rather short conference. Ms. Guerrero told us that she believes I should finish the rest of the year in the third grade.…

That sterile smell, the multiple doctor visits; the little white rooms, where I tried to not think about the worst thing that could be wrong with me. One of the white coats finally said something, but it wasn't good news; I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. My world had just turned upside down. I was 12 years old at the time. My parents and I didn't know anything about diabetes, so when I was told I had it, I had just assumed it was only temporary, that I will get better in a few days; I looked at it like having the ''common cold''.…

I have worked with many children whom have ADHD. The big thing is that you know that each child suffers from a different level of ADHD some far more worse than others. Many young adolescents don 't realize that they have ADHD and they have a hard time social interacting with fellow classmates and friends because they don 't know how to communicate. The students that I work with easily get distracted and get off track quite easily (Horta and Polanczyk, 2007, p. 5). Some will just get up and go get a drink with out hesitation, others might just yell or speak up…

Since I was eight, my parents have been waking me up at four a.m. to work at our family’s business, Chuck’s Donuts. At the time, I saw this as a pain, a chore, something I would rather not do. I was always grumpy and annoyed in the morning, especially when asked to help serve customers or wash tables. My parents constantly scolded me because of my bad attitude, talking back, giving off an aura of nonchalance, or acting like I owned the place.…

Growing up as a child, I not only had trouble focusing in the classroom, but I found school to be devastatingly boring. I quickly became enamored by TV and video games, but sending me to school was like a punishment. My parents and teachers all told me of how I would regret not trying in school, yet I would not listen. Each year I faced the dreadful uncertainty of whether or not I would make it to the next grade. Each year I ignored the loving advice of my teachers to try harder.…

Zak W. Van once said, “Bullying builds character like nuclear waste creates superheroes. It 's a rare occurrence and often does much more damage than endowment.” When I was younger, I was always bullied because I walked different from everyone else. Being bullied always made me want to be someone better than those who’d bully me and make a difference. I knew that I wasn’t really what they were calling me.…

I began lashing out at my peers, acting disrespectfully toward teachers and tormenting anyone I perceived weaker than me. Since I would not tell anyone what was happening to me, I was considered a behavior problem. My only outlet was my writing, and it was through my words that a teacher finally caught on to what was going on with me. Flash forward approximately 20 years. A few years ago I was working as a long term substitute teacher in an eighth grade ELA classroom.…

I used to hate coming to school, but I have learned that getting my education would be one of the biggest steps in my life. I was always that kid who would always be talking and being off task which was one of the main reasons I would get kicked out of class and eventually get me suspended. People who knew me when this was happening knew that I had it in me not to get in trouble or also that I could get good grades, but I just never felt the urge to try harder. I used to be a person who would want popularity instead of an education; I would practically do anything for a spotlight of attention. I have never been a person who liked the core classes; I personally think that I am a more hands-on person more than anything.…

School wasn’t the best place I would choose to be at back then. I didn’t like most of the factors about school. One of the reasons was because in middle school our class had a test every week that our math teacher gave us in the beginning of the class. Back then, I had a mindset closer to a fixed mindset because I didn’t even bother about trying to study or review for my test since that was what everyone else was doing anyways. As usual I would always receive a passing grade which was just enough for me.…
