Katrina Herrera Mrs. Clark AP English 3 08 February 2018 Argumentative Essay Final Draft: Gun Control Gun control is one of the most controversial topics in American politics. More than one-third of Americans in the United States own firearms in their households. It is estimated that more than thirty-thousand people are shot each year due to murders, accidents, police intervention, suicide attempts and suicide. Gun control laws are not strict enough for the safety of our society. The purchase and possession of firearms should be banned in order to prevent potential public shootings, protect the environment, and decrease suicide and death rates.…
This idea could eliminate many of the guns being carried illegally. Not only would it help discover hidden weapons, but it would also give officers a “heads up” that an assailant may be armed. It also employs the officer with an acceptable reason to conduct a frisk search. Wilson suggests, that the people who would work on this product would be underemployed nuclear physicists or electronics engineers, in view of the fact that they have the knowledge it takes to design and produce a product like this gun detector. This is a better solution than random street frisks because it grants an officer probable cause to frisk a person which will help avoid lawsuits pertaining to harassment and racial discrimination.…
This solution requires no change to the current laws that our country has, which would eliminate the need to make changes to the second amendment. The biggest change that would come with this solution could be a better system of education on guns. This education could consist of guidelines such as how to safely load, clean, and carry a gun, as well as techniques on how to properly shoot the gun. With this solution, the biggest financial investment would be put toward the “gun schools”, and the professionals that work there. There are many major advantages that could come from the implementation of this solution.…
When the founding fathers of the United States wrote the Constitution, they added the Bill of Rights which is a set of the first the ten amendments of to the Constitution. The second of these amendments, states that "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." (U.S Const. Amend II). Particularly, this amendment is interpreted in many ways; some pro gun-control groups say only militias are allowed to bear arms, and pro gun groups say that every citizen is allowed to bear arms.…
A Proposal for Handguns Should Be Controlled In Arizona Problem The problem is Arizona allows people who are over 21 years old to buy and use handguns, which makes many people believe they are always under a dangerous environment of gun violence, especially children, women, and older people. From the statistics of gun violence in America, there are many results of surveys that show how serious gun violence in Arizona is, like how the rate of Arizona’s gun-death ratio is 40 percent higher than the U.S. average. The Law Center to prevent Gun Violence gave Arizona an “F,” ranking it 49th out if 50 states, even Arizona had the eighth-highest rate of women killed by men and so on (Center for American Progress, pp. 1).…
Guns are a way of life for some, but I personally believe that something should be done to help prevent the murders caused by people with guns. To help organize my thoughts I will discuss them by explaining why this concerns everyone,…
I plan on using more rigorous background checks to prevent certain individuals from accessing weapons. These certain individuals include criminals and the mentally unstable or insane. If someone is deemed unsatisfactory by our standards, they will not only be denied a weapon or license to wield one, but they will also be put on a special watch list. Therefore, the government will have a list of those who have attempted to get the guns, and they will be able to monitor their activity. For example, if someone who is a registered psychopath or sociopath, they will be turned away and noted for further examination into their character.…
Those who wish to purchase a gun should receive extensive searches that touch his or her’s criminal and mental health records. Lastly, gun laws should be uniform throughout America to prevent anyone from legally purchasing one. All of these components could be incorporated into American gun control, if the responsibility of selling firearms were placed in the hands of the federal government; furthermore, only federal facilities should have the right to sell guns. The likelihood of error from the federal government would be small, diminishing the amount of unqualified people legally obtaining a gun and reducing the incidence of gun violence in…
In the past few decades, firearms have had a big impact on society. These impacts have been both good and evil, and have caused controversy on the topic of gun ownership. Some groups, such as the Brady Campaign, would like to see gun control laws take away some rights and restrict others, whereas the National Rifle Association would like to protect gun rights and educate society on the use of firearms. Both sides want to stop the problem of gun violence, but protecting gun rights is the only way to truly insure public safety. Gun control will not be able to stop the use of guns, and it will put citizens in an unfair situation where they cannot protect themselves.…
With new technological advances improving guns in order to make them safe and more personalized to the person when they completely finish the permit process. Implementing technology could give us the possibility that guns that are safe locked with a fingerprint and cannot be unlocked without the same fingerprint, also using the same technology to seal gun safes and the storage of the gun safes must be somewhere not in plain sight and must be out of reach of small children if any are present in the home. Adding certain laws that would require people to unload any guns that are being stored in a home and keep ammo out of reach and also locked up. Imposing minimal sentencing for gun…
Gun Control is Not the Solution Increased Gun Control in the United States is absurd, useless, and unnecessary. In order to increase safety all throughout the United States time and effort must not be spent towards limiting gun owners of their rights. The tragic rash of school, religious, and workplace shootings has turned up the heat on the public conversation about guns. In nearly all of these cases gun laws would not have stopped the shooters from obtaining a firearm.…
I am not so arrogant as to accept only my own solution and narrow-mindedly reject the offers of intelligent men that are equally effective. But, until such offers are made, I wish you do keep this in mind: first, an average of 25 Americans are murdered by firearms every day. Second, there is a ratio of 88 guns to every 100 Americans; there is no possible way to keep those firearms out of the hands of criminals and the mentally disturbed. I ask that those who disagree with my humble plan to put forth their own that will accomplish the same…
Violence in the United States has become one of the largest topics of debate as of recent. Murder has become much too common, and the rate of this crime is only increasing. The solution to violence, more specifically gun violence, is a large point of discussion in the current presidential race. Citizens and politicians alike have very different viewpoints on how this issue should be dealt with, and this disagreement is causing a hindrance to actually solving the problem at hand.…
In America, there is a growing perception that guns are: they are harmful, they kill, and they commit crimes, and so most guns should be banned. But, how can a gun kill or commit crimes; it is not a living thing, it is a tool. With the use of guns, America has grown to be a strong and independent country throughout history. The push to ban guns will only keep guns away from law abiding citizens since criminals, by nature, do not follow laws and respect the gun free zones. The banning of guns in America should end.…
In recent years, a lot of debate had been going on about the laws pertaining to firearms. Unfortunately, with all of the mass shootings and killings being reported by the media, guns are given a bad reputation. Sadly, many people believe that they should be illegal because they are dangerous and can kill people, but what these people don’t realize is making them illegal will do a lot more harm than good. Guns have created a balance in society and if we were to take them away it could cause a lot of chaos which would result in more crime and more casualties. People deserve the right to bear arms because with proper training one could possibly save his/her life and also protect others.…
