Life is weird sometimes; you get messy, make mistakes, and things happen that are totally out of your control. In a way, you could say that our lives are like stories or plots in a book. To give you an example, I'm going to discuss two stories: “The Interlopers” ( written by Saki), and “The Story of an Hour” (written by Kate Chopin). Although these are both two different stories, I believe that they have some similar themes. In the short story “The Interlopers”, two families have made a mistake that turns into a full-blown feud between their families; their descendants can't change their history.…

I decided to write this story after my sister Rachel, who was sixteen years my senior, passed away. The Second World War was the reason for this difference in age: she was twelve years old when the War started, spending teenage years struggling for survival during evacuation, post War hunger, disease, long lines for rations of flour and sugar. I, (most likely an accident), was born after the War; in America I am a part of the baby boomers generation. Regrettably, nobody in our family talked about horrors of War, weeks in the cold trains while traveling to the little town in the Northern Caucasian Mountain, or the life during several years away from home while sharing a room with the strangers.…

As an eighth grader, I had no choice but to balance out my school work, making sure to do all the chores, and taking care of my three younger siblings at home by myself. My parents would be up in the hospital taking care of my now passed grandmother, who had cancer, while I, being the oldest child in the family, had to stay home alone to take care of my younger siblings. At first it was a difficult task for my 12-year old self to handle. While I was doing my homework or studying, I would have to stop what I was doing and help my siblings on their homework. Another scenario would be me cleaning up the house, even though there were homework waiting for me on the table.…
