Small Ensemble Band

We have been working on our small Ensemble group project. The ensembles are made up of different instrumentation. We did not get to choose our groups so it wasn't always easy to work together. During the project we learned a song all together and perform it in front of the class. Our Song had to have all the right rhythms, articulations, good tempo, and dynamics that stand out. Working in a small Ensemble was difficult at times. It was also very different to work in a mixed instrumentation Ensemble rather than an ensemble with all the same Instruments. I have some advice to help students who need to prepare for a small ensemble project.

There were many similarities and differences from this year and last year. Point out the obvious the first difference was the way we were set up into groups with the instrumentation. One difference we had was When one instrument would have trouble with a line this year we could not help as much because we did not know the notes on the instrument, but last year we could help because he had all the same instrument and could even help with fingerings on the instrument. It was all so different from last year because it sounded different period this year there was more color to the music I guess you could say. Last year every instrument sounded the same so the lines weren't brought out as much but with different instruments are able to hear each line even more. It was all so different from last year because you have to balance loud instruments with some quiet Arrangements which is not always easy. Last year with our small Ensemble project when we had all the same instruments it was easier to blend because all instruments or the same volume only some people played louder. Although , in the end we still had many challenges and overcome them and work hard as a group both last year and this year. Overall working in a small ensemble was similar and different in many ways this year and last

The group that I will be reviewing in this paper is the student combo that I enjoyed most of all, the group that performed first and was directed by Dr. Routenberg. The group consisted of Andrew Fiorini on the trumpet, Noah Johnson on the trombone, Meghan Walls playing the piano, Andrew Moser on the electric bass, and Collin St. Mary on the drums. Regarding the music…

Through doing the Team Final Project exercise, I gained many insights about interdisciplinary/ cross-functional teams, the most importing being that this was a valuable learning opportunity. I learned how to work with people whom I have never met before or interacted with in person. I learned more about how businesses are run. I learned about different organizational structures such as the matrix structure. Working on this project helped me understand how Bruce Tuckman’s Team-Development model is applied to real life situations.…

We are expected to practice on our own time and have it ready for the weekly rehearsals. I played and marched in several shows throughout the fall marching season. I also participated in the concert band, which is all the band students and we play higher difficulty music. It’s different because not all band students are in marching band and the woodwinds are given a more important role in the music. Also I was able to join creative writing club as one of the founding members.…

In my two years studying at Jurong Junior College, I have decided to join the Guitar Ensemble to expand my knowledge of music; to add on to my prior experiences of learning the electronic organ during the younger years of my life. I have certainly picked up on the basic skills of playing the guitar and even received the chance of being the leader of one of the sections, however, more importantly, I have stepped down from this CCA bringing back extremely useful skills such as team work, diligence as well as perseverance, which will certainly help me to improve my attitude towards life. This is even more apparent as we participated in the Singapore Youth's Festival Arts Exhibition in 2015, as we stayed back for long hours in school to perfect the techniques and performance within each section, as well as among all the sections in the ensemble, whilst making sure to keep a balance with my studies as well. Though there were some conflicts within the team during this tense period, the problems are quickly ironed out as we worked together and managed to clinch a Certificate of Achievement.…

People are always looking for someone to lead them. We all need someone to look to for help or inspiration, whether it be a movie star, author, or even a teacher. Nowadays leadership is key to success. Just recently I learned how true the previous statement is. During and after the group project I got a better understanding of NAVAL and a better understanding of my group. For example, Lexi is the leader of the group and Camille is the worker bee meaning that she is the one to go to for the information about the presentation. There were many high points in the group such as when we completed are power point early and when we researched the information. I had a blast working with them. A low point was when the video couldn’t load and we had to start from scratch again.…

During high school I participated in many different extracurricular activities. Being involved in the marching band was one of the most rewarding experiences I had in high school. I wasn't a part of the band, but the color guard. When I first started color guard, I asked myself why I would dedicate the last two weeks of summer to twirling a flag. By the end of the first week of band camp I realized this is what I wanted to do in high school.…

Team building was also a strength our team implied. Our team never encountered any conflicts with each other while working on this project. When we were all assigned roles in the project everyone seemed pleased with what their responsibilities were. Everyone’s ideas were always heard and we were able to come up with a solution to a problem as a group. We seemed to get along very well, help each other out with any parts we had trouble with and get the job done by the expected date.…

I personally do not enjoy partaking in group-based assignments based on my own personal negative experiences, although, I do acknowledge the benefits group work can bring. It was highly noticeable to me, that working remotely can be difficult for some students to manage given the lack of existing relationship between members. I, as a team player, was a highly active contributor throughout the creative synthesis projects, who understood my effort would determine not only my own academic outcome but also the outcome of my peers. Although, not all who are trusted with the grades of their peers, take such a responsibility so seriously. Each team member brings different experiences and expectations to the table and therefore, navigating these assessments can be somewhat treacherous if team members are not on the same page.…
