In my own words I would define a slum as a place where someone lives who does not have immediate access to running water or sanitation. A point I seen trending in all the slum presented in the videos were that the people represented were minorities. Minorities seem to have the underhand globally in the world, and I also seen that diseases were high. Post WWII many urbanized communities in America recycled this term and it’s mainly used within the African American community to describe a way of life. Ghetto can mean anything from your living conditions to an adjective that describes a person’s personality. Many Hip Hop artists have been story tellers for these ghetto living conditions and giving the world a front row seat into drug using illegal dealings and other prohibited activity (gang activity, police brutality and crime). Many feel that in the ghetto you have to learn how to survive because no one like the government really cares about the people here in the communities. I presented a thought earlier about the perspective of a ghetto to a slum. The living conditions in a ghetto I believe, are not as drastic as they are in a slum. I also feel as though people are more giving to slum conditioned areas than ghettos. I do not believe anything is wrong with that because I feel ghettos are positioned in more developed countries to where insecurities aren’t as scarce. Yes, here in America we have families who are lacking food but we have resources in place like Food Stamps and TANF that help assist those in need. We have seen a shift with developers where they are coming into old cities and ghettos and are “reviving” them with new developments which the residents themselves aren’t too happy about
