I found it rather interesting that each of the main dwellers we followed throughout the film all shared something rather similar. They all had a dream, rather it be for them, or the people in their lives. One guy wanted to be a big movie star in Bollywood, one woman wanted to help the community because she had a dream of her own, for them to all grow together. The two of them also shared a dream of pushing their children to be the smartest kids they could be, to get through school with the best of grades, but why? Like, if women receive less work because they are generally seen as more frail than men. Or perhaps women have a higher chance of getting casted into a movie if they can dance and sing than if a man can do the same exact thing. I wonder if the women are still invested in beauty when they work day and night, and probably can not afford to wear the latest style, or even care for that matter. I know that gender plays a role in some shape or form in every society, so it is interesting to sit and think about the different aspects. In the film, I could not really notice too many things relating to the subject because, of course, gender was not a big focus whatsoever. A single thing that I did notice, however, was that almost all of the scavengers were either children, or women. I believe the reasoning could obviously be a number of things, such as the following: perhaps since women and children generally have smaller hands, they can scavenge through the garbage faster and easier; or perhaps since women and children generally are weaker than the men, the men do all of the heavy and tiring lifting, while the women do tasks such as this. Or there is always the possibility that the footage did not show us the full picture, in which these sightings were of mere coincidence. As I stated before, this is not a big element played in the film, so there is not a lot for me to go
