I have read the books and watched the plays of The Monkey's Paw, Sleepy Hollow, Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County, The Necklace, Tell Tall- Heart and The Raven. I have noticed many differences and few similarities. I will be explaining what I observed between the books and the plays.
In the books and the plays there were lots of details that were different to each other. In books they gave good visuals that explained who the characters were and what they looked like. The plays on the other hand showed the simple scenery and the costumes gave some good detail to fit who the characters really were. The books had to really explain it where the plays could just show it. An example in the plays, the costume for Ichabod Crane was perfectly done and just how I imagined him to look. The play made up their own neat way for him to stretch with his legs really flexible. The book did not have nearly as much detail as the play. …show more content…
Furthermore the play’s detail for the setting was simple and did not change very often. An example would be, like in the Monkey’s Paw, when they were waiting for the Sergeant Major. Outside the weather was gloomy and wet. The roads were all messed up and it was hard to get around. This was not shown during the play. In the play all they did was start out in the house where the Sergeant Major’s wife was waiting for her friends to arrive. The house scenery never changed. One more difference that I observed was that the book had used the Sergeant Major as the visitor, but the play used the Sergeant Major’s
