Examples of this would be Jesus from the Bible, Dionysus the Greek god, and many more. I believe in Macbeth, Shakespeare was alluding to Jesus when he introduced the doctor. Lady Macbeth has reached the point of no return, the doctor is presented as the last resort to bring hope. The fact that he sees nothing he can do signifies the lack of good that can come. the evil that has come out of Macbeth has been put to the test by the doctor in the play, ultimately the doctor sees nothing he can do.
