RLS is a neurological disorder that causes various sensations in your legs such as: throbbing, pain, pulling, and an uncontrollable urge to move your legs constantly. A person with restless leg syndrome will feel the symptoms at night or anytime they are trying to relax or rest. When experiencing RLS people may have paresthesias, which are abnormal sensations in the legs in addition to other unpleasant feelings for which the only relief is to move your legs. About ten percent of the U.S. population has RLS and it is very common for those suffering under this particular affliction to be very sleep deprived, as the symptoms only activate when a person tries to relax or sleep. The most common way to treat restless leg syndrome is to decrease the amount of caffeine and alcohol consumed, to regulate a sleep schedule, and to regularly massage and soak the legs in an effort to soothe them. There are of course pharmaceuticals available to try and lessen the symptoms but they are mostly temporary relief.
