The Importance of Sleep
Sleep is something that many of us take for granted nowadays. Everyone all around the world has to sleep because it 's basically required. It 's a necessity for human beings. People don 't realize how crucial it is to have a well rested mind in order to get through the day. Sleep is a very important aspect for sustaining a healthy lifestyle and having a fully functional body.
Sleep plays a very important role in physical health. During your sleep, your body actually heals and repairs the heart and blood vessels. It helps you function well throughout the day allowing you to accomplish more work and be more productive. After even just losing 1-2 hours of sleep, your ability to function suffers. This will cause you to take longer to finish tasks, you will have a slower reaction time, and you are more likely to make mistakes. This also leads to microsleep. Microsleep are brief moments of sleep that occur when you are normally awake. Microsleep cannot be controlled and some people are not even aware that they have it. Many people think that they can function well without quality sleep but in reality they would be limited. This can be extremely dangerous and can be the cause of tragic accidents. An example of this would be drowsy drivers. Studies show that sleep deficient driver are just as bad, or even worse, than drunk drivers. An estimated 100,000 car accidents each year are caused by sleep deficient drivers, resulting in about 1,500 deaths each year. Another high risk area would be your workplace, especially if your line of work affects others. This can lead to large- scale damage. Sleep deficient people have caused many errors throughout human history ranging from nuclear reactor meltdowns and grounding of large ships to aviation accidents. So make sure you think twice before driving or going to work without enough sleep because it 's not only harmful on a personal level, but it can also affect the people around you.
