We all live for sleep, but is not getting enough sleep slowly killing us? Fifty to Seventy million americans suffer from some type of sleeping disorder. (“Sleep”). Sleep deprivation is common but who really knows the truth? What is sleep deprivation? Sleep deprivation is the condition that occurs when one does not get enough sleep. Sleep deprivation can lead to may different diseases and even a shortened life. Sleep deprivation can be addressed and fixed by avoiding things that keep one awake and adapting new habits during the day, but it also effects a persons health physically and mentally through different phases during the night. There are many different effects on the body that happen during the phases of sleep deprivation. After loosing just one night of sleep the skin suffers and starts to look pasty and ashen, and the dark circles under ones eyes become darker and deeper. Ones muscles start to hurt and become weaker and more tired.The sleeplessness diminishes the serotonin in the body, which is a contributor to feelings and happiness, and can increase the amount of pain one encounters. Within one night of sleep loss Ones prefrontal cortex that controls logic, starts to shut down from the lack of sleep, which leads to making mistakes and bad decisions. One might also start to become very tired and cranky without enough sleep which also leads to anxiety and irritability (Breus). After just a few nights ones concentration and focus…
