This quote is a perfect illustration of the modern view of human trafficking, because many people know it happens, but do nothing about it. We like to turn our heads and pretend like nothing is happening to people, when in reality their lives are being destroyed as I speak to you right now. According to The Guardian, sexual slavery is a major criminal enterprise that makes 32 billion dollars annually. This industry continues to grow, because it is largely ignored by the media and the general population. Victims of sexual trafficking are forced to participate in sexual acts against their will. They are often young and forced into that life no matter how they might fight because traffickers are typically stronger than them. The traffickers take the younger victims to older victims and have the older person teach the new slave what to do. This is rape. There is no other way to view what is happening. Traffickers have such a low risk of being caught, there is no fear or empathy.These people don’t care about what happens to these women and children, because they are focused on their own best interests. Human trafficking may be something people don’t like to think about, but they must because it is slavery, it is prostitution, it is kidnapping, and it is preventable. Slavery is a disgusting industry that has somehow found a way to survive in the modern world. Slavery may be far from over, but we can stop it.
