Lincoln winning the Election of 1860 was the South’s worst nightmare because they knew how Lincoln was going to deal with slavery as president. Lincoln showed his view on slavery through many of his debates. Lincoln stated in his historical debate against Douglas that slavery was immoral and overall wrong, but he never directly said that he wanted to end slave. Even though Lincoln never said that directly, but was obvious that the South saw him as a clear threat to their right to own slaves. Almost all problems and events that happen between the North and South prior to the Civil War can be linked to slavery. The South saw the 1860 Election as a huge threat to slavery due to Lincoln’s more Northern views of slavery. They thought it was unconstitutional for the North to be able to take away slavery which they viewed as a natural human right. Then the South tried to separate themselves from the North so that they could keep slavery. All of these action directly correlate with slavery and caused tension to build between the two nations leading to the Civil War. Slavery was the most significant reason for the bloodiest war in American
