Uncle Tom’s Cabin is about a slave name Tom, hints the name Uncle TOM’S Cabin. Many people think that this is about a slave named Tom, but the story is based on a slave named Josiah Henson. Stowe would later say that Henson story inspired her to write Uncle Tom’s Cabin. This is how Stowe used her platform to discuss her opinion on slavery. Uncle Tom’s Cabin became such a well read book that when Stowe met President Lincoln, he said “So this is the little lady who started this big war.” So back to the book, Tom started at a plantation in Kentucky. This plantation was said to be “one of the better” plantations. Slavery has been a big part of American history. People have owned slaves since the Colonies started. Stowe mindset was to write a book to tell what goes on in slavery to get people to change their mind and help the slaves. Lately slavery has a made a comeback in America. People again have separated on the opinion on slavery. People against it have tried to erase history by trying to get the Confederate flag taken away in all. People have also taken down monuments such as the Robert E. Lee statue in Charlottesville, Virginia and recently it was taken out of a Dallas city park. This issue has even gotten to College Football. The University of Mississippi was told they must change their mascot because it was a Rebel, it was recently changed to a Landshark. The people for it have tried to speak out against the fact that people are trying to erase history. They are saying that if you were not personally involved in slavery than you really cannot say that it is offensive.
