According to discoveringbristol.org.uk Britain has begun a movement for African Reparations. The site continues to speak of how the movement's goal is to “ask for reparations or compensation from all those countries which benefited from the Slave trade and colonialism”. The article speaks not only of the history of slavery but why the movement believes that reparations should be given. They believe that monetary reparations should be offered to repay for the lost lives in the slave trade as well as the work that slaves have done for over 200 years unpaid. Reparations should also be considered to make up for the goods (such as copper) that were taken from Africa during colonization along with all the harm done to Africa through racism. When considering if slavery reparations should be given, its clear to see this article's stance. The unfortunate events that occurred during slavery and the outcome of countries who did not benefit from slavery can be seen as the direct fault of The UK (along with other countries who participated). In an article entitled “The Case for Reparations” written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, from the Atlantic, he argues the idea of reparations and how it deserves an important place in the discussion of race in the United States. Though it may seem as though Coates title of his article portrays “reparation” as: making amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged; However, he isn’t demanding that a sum of taxpayer dollars should be handed out to every African American. Though it seems like a very effective method of apologizing on the behalf of the United States history of racism, it is not possible to come up with a price that would repay for centuries of enslavement and oppression. Rather, Coates…

I believe that with no living former slaves any reparation payments would only serve to give current African Americans a stronger feeling of entitlement. I am inagreement with the article that it is logistically impossible to pay for reparations. If reparations are paid some welfare programs will be affected, therefore people who live with the help of welfare programs will be affected as well. Ultimately this would cause a negative outcome to happen. Lowering the taxes for people who have ancestors who were affected by slavery would be appropriate.…

He writes that after four hundred thirty-five years of racial injustice towards the African American community, the American government owes them. The slavery and slave-like conditions people were put in is something The United States should and will be ashamed of until the end of time. As the name of the title aptly suggests, Ta-Nehisi Coates, in his article, “The Case for Reparations”, builds a case for the racial minority, that is black folk, to seek amends for the years of injustice and servitude rendered by them to the majority, here in America. Through the medium of Clyde Ross, a veteran but now ordinary citizen, representative of the plight of any other black person living in that era, Coates attempts to provide an argument for the ills and hardships that the Blacks were faced with throughout the previous few centuries, under the regime of white supremacy, in the land of opportunity. In his article, Coates emphasizes not only on the explicit forms and visible aspects of racism and discrimination prevalent, such as…
