The year is 1776, and this is TuPac’s grandson Pedro. A few days ago the Declaration of Independence was signed, and now some states are beginning to ban slavery. Right now I am located in Missouri which sadly isn’t one of the states that have banned slavery. It’s is 1787, eleven years later. Forty-six years later: There is a slave named Harriet Tubman who has escapes through the sought called “Underground Railroad.”
Today on August 23rd, 1860, All of us slaves in Missouri are planning an escape to the Northwest. We will escape through the underground railroad. Lets pray we make it out alive. It is the next day, and we have escaped. We’re looking for a place to stay for the night to sleep. We’ve luckily found a nice couple that has let us stay. It’s 1861, and the Civil War has started, which is making our journey more risky.
It is five a.m. in the morning. The nice couple that let us stay cooked us up some eggs. We are going to leave and get back on the railroad at six.
We are back on the railroad to get to the north. There’s a lot of posters with black people on them that are wanted for $150 dollars a slave. There’s is news that it took harriet Tubman a week to reach only 120 miles. We’ve been walking for over twelve hours and are only in Iowa. For the night we’re staying in a log cabin with a man and his two sons.
