In the book Beloved, the author Toni Morrison takes us the readers through the world of slavery as this book in particular deals with an actual time period that has occurred within history. The tale of slavery comes with the physical and emotional pain that can be applied to most characters in the story as the narrative jumps between the past and the present of former slaves who are free in the present time, but continuously search for their “freedom” from the wreaking havoc slavery has placed upon them. The stage of the story takes place in Cincinnati, Ohio during the mid-1800’s (1873) where the theme of slavery is abundant throughout the story.
