What is the mode of the satire? (Exaggeration, incongruity, reversal, or parody)
Example 1: “He would go to saving up money and never spending a single cent, and when he got enough he would buy his wife, which was owned on a farm close to where miss Watson lived; and then they both would work to buy the two children” (pg 89). Jim wants to buy his family back so that they can finally live a nice life where they can see everybody for the first time. They just want to be a family again. This is incongruity because it represents what the blacks were thinking when they got free, trying to save their loved ones.
Example 2: “ I had a good as helped to run away; coming right out flat-footed and saying saying he would steal his children- children that belonged to a man I didn't even know; a man that hasn't ever done me no harm”(pg 81). When Huck finds out about this he does not think that it is right, because he thinks that they belong to the owner that bought them. But Jim wants to just get his family back. This is incongruity because it shows what a white person was thinking when a slave broke out and was trying to save his family.
