war erupted the biggest demonstration of racism occurred: Slavery. Slavery was the general white population degrading the African Americans beyond their control. Ripped away from their familiar land, sold to the United States' Caucasian population the race was completely powerless, helpless, and disorientated. During this time in history America's agricultural industry depended heavily on free labor that the African Americans provided. Free labor was not the only form of abuse afflicted on African Americans they were also physically abused by their owners. They were traumatized physically, but also mentally- they were torn from their families and were unable to form a secure bond with another without the guarantee they would be separated. …show more content…
I have seen hundreds of escaped slaves, but I never saw one who was willing to go back to be a slave"(p.16). White men and woman felt they hadn't done anything wrong and because of where African Americans inhabited originally they felt they were giving them opportunities and chances such as learning opportunities. Eventually recognition of the unfairness and disrespect was noticed. The Civil War was an action to end slavery. The Confederate South wanted to stabilize their economy with slavery, and the North being more industrialized and moral aimed to end the utilization of slavery. This clash of opinions resulted in the spur of the bloody and surprisingly long war of a nation against itself. After much fighting the Confederate fell to the Union under the presidency of Abraham Lincoln. The Civil War caused tragedies of all races and divided a country, yet ironically served to make a revolutionary step to the equality of all races. It only partly resolved the political and social equality to a race perceived inferior though. However fundamentally it ended slavery so that every person despite their race was technically free to pursue their
