On Laziness by Christopher Morley talks about the fundamentals of being lazy. He speaks about how people get more out of life when they are lazier and how the more lazy you are the less people are going to ask from you. Morley’s style incorporates the appeal to human nature and rhetorical effects to achieve his purpose that being lazy is a constitute of self-care. “ It is our observation that every time we get into trouble it is due to not having been lazy enough.” Society expects so much from us, and from the moment we are born to the day we pass we are given expectations to live by and stereotypes to abide by or prove wrong.…

The first thing that comes to my mind when thinking about gender differences in regards to “hooking up” is the old saying that girls are from Venus and boys are from Mars. Now I get that men and women are actually both from Earth, but when it comes to sex games and intrigue both sexes defiantly seem to be coming from different planets, maybe even different galaxies. From personal experience, whenever a girl friend tells me she wants a wild night out on the town or wants a “no-strings attached” one night stand it’s usually right after a fight or break-up with their significant other. This, to me, sets the stage for the next guy she meets to be a rebound guy, so even if the “hook up” was what she wanted, it wasn’t positive because she wasn’t…

As a result of the negative consequences associated with drinking alcohol, universities across the nation have enacted a policy banning the consumption, possession, and distribution of alcohol on campus, regardless of age or the owner’s intention to consume it elsewhere. The purpose is not only to limit underage drinking, but also drinking and driving, binge-drinking, etc. In theory, the “Dry Campus” policy appears practicable; however, it does not (fully) eradicate the abuse of alcohol. In fact, in some instances, the ban (arguably/ironically) promotes excessive/unhealthy drinking and driving under the influence. Thus, the question is raised: could Pepperdine’s “Dry Campus” policy potentially cause more harm than good?…

Because I spent a great deal of my teenage year working I learned a strong work ethic which began to influence other portions of my morality. I saw lazy individuals among my peers who were unable to motivate themselves and labeled them weak minded unable to overcome their desire to be lazy. I had neither the time nor the tolerance for these people because they had no self-control and only sought to please themselves with the most minimal amount of…
