Skyrim: To Play or Not To Play The video game industry has been one of the fastest growing industries in the last 20 years. Games have evolved into their own genres and there are thousands to choose from in each genre. Role-playing-games or RPGs are a category that lets the player live vicariously through the character in the game. One company famous for its RPG series, The Elder Scrolls, is Bethesda Softworks. The latest installment in the Elder Scrolls series is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Skyrim delivers the most bang for its buck in the RPG universe and it provides fans with what they have come to expect from an Elder Scrolls game; a deep immersive experience. Skyrim offers

The climate will change based on the location. For example, the farther north the player goes, the colder it gets and the more snow will be there. Not only does the environment change but so do the things in it. Walruses can be found at the northern shore but you will never see one in the forests to the south. The game developers do a good job of giving each city a theme and based on its location. This theme controls many aspects of what is found in each place. Markarth, a city to the east is built on dwarven ruins and the architecture in the city is influenced by the culture and the city’s history. The deep thought put into every aspect of the environment and the attention to detail allows for an environment that does not contradict itself due to irregularities in the lore of the game. Each place has its own history and many characteristics that make it seem like it could be a real place. This allows for a very immersive feel and you can begin to connect with the environment as if it were a living breathing …show more content…
Skyrim has many new introductions into the game mechanics. A notable addition is the use of dragon shouts in combat. Dragon shouts allow the player to have another form of attack besides what is in the player’s right or left hand. This gives the player more options when defeating enemies. More options means that the player is not limited to just doing the same thing over again. Skyrim keeps the game interesting because there are so many ways to do anything. Another great mechanic is the system used to increase experience in a certain attribute such as smithing, or swordsmanship. In order to level up in a skill, you don’t need to wait until you level up your character and then get points to spend. All Skyrim requires is that you simply use that skill. If you want to get better at destruction magic, use more fireball spell. If you want to improve your armoring skill, start making improvements to your armor. This is a more interactive way to level up and immersion is not ruined by the need to allocate points in order to get better in

I moved to Yuba City, California approximately twelve years ago and have lived there ever since. I chose to analyze the climate trends of Yuba City because, even though I may move away soon after graduating college, it is where my parents will continue to live and I would like to have an idea of future climate changes in their city. Yuba City is a fairly small town in Sutter County with a population of 65,416 people (United States Census, 2013). It is located on the Feather River 45 miles north of Sacramento at latitude: 39.140 and longitude: -121.617 (LatLong.net, 2015). The importance of reading in our education system is crucial so a common question that stems from its importance is how gamers compare in literary development. When it comes to literacy in books and in gaming it comes down to the context of the literature. Gamers that choose faster passed shooters or quite puzzle games are not any more literate then someone who chooses to read the books of “The Cat and the Hat”. There has been research which has shown that there are gamers that excel in literary tasks, but only due to the context of the games they were playing.…

Video games are arguably even less associated with storytelling than comics are, with some critics believing “that the video-game form is incompatible with traditional concepts of narrative” (Bissel, 93). Where the medium truly excels, however, is with its capacity for immersion. Like how the addition of sound allowed filmgoers to not just watch the action but hear it, “Every new medium that has been invented … has increased the transporting power of narrative” (Rose, 36). Where readers of books and viewers of movies are passive, gamers take an active role in their narratives. In games like Mass Effect this means making key decisions that affect the development of the plot, but in games like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted and The Last of Us, this…

Dare, A Regretful Education Have you ever wondered how the D.A.R.E. program worked in the United States? Well I can tell you this, if an officer that is involved with the D.A.R.E. program is trying to show you the impact of a substance, then why do you see them doing that same substance while off duty? They are either smoking a cigarette or guzzling booze until they are downright wasted, if this is the kind of inspiration that helps you stay away from substances, well it’d work better than what you’re learning from D.A.R.E. A multitude of people believe the D.A.R.E. program should be replaced with a different program that provides a new/better way to fight substance abuse, others believe D.A.R.E. should be able to help in the education…

Some of these board games are still seen today, while others have disappeared. Nine Men’s Morris is supposedly one of the oldest games in history.…

She is a world-renowned designer of an alternate reality, she believes that “game designers are on a humanitarian mission — and her #1 goal in life is to see a game developer win a Nobel Peace Prize” (McGonigal pg.1). For example, the author Jane McGonigal, wrote “Be a Gamer, Save the World,” published on January 22, 2011, in the Wall Street Journal, and she argues that we all think that playing video games is a way to escape reality, but gamers could change the world. Jane McGonigal effectively uses statistics and facts, and she successfully uses ethos and logos…

Imagine having summer all year long, being under the sweltering heat, breathing the stuffy, sick air, and conditions worsening as the day goes by. These harsh conditions are increased by air pollution and climate change through cars and factories; man-made inventions. These innovative technologies have been necessary in order to have a functioning and developing society and economy. However, the belief that humans are the sole cause of climate change is refuted by scientists, advocating that the change in the Earth’s climate is a natural cause. Earth formed over about 4.5 billion years ago, and it has changed ever since then.…
