Skycity Case Study

The second country to be looked at as a potential expansion destination for Skycity is in The United States of America (USA). With a population of over three hundred and eighteen million and a GDP of 16.8 trillion USD per year (U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, 2014). The USA is an enormously important country where breaking into the market will be extremely influential for any company not just for Skycity. The USA is the largest consumer of gambling products in the world, with over 1500 active casino operating throughout the country. The area of Metro Center is largely inhabited by commercial businesses with major through traffic coming from a neighboring interstate, downtown Nashville, and two nearby universities. Because of the overwhelming commercial presence in Metro Center, the housing options are limited and traditional single-family homes are nonexistent. Not only are options limited when finding housing, the apartment complexes that are in the area are not nearly large enough to house the people who work in or around Metro Center, making listings far and few between, and the housing that is found, is out of the price range…

But the real damage is not in the amount of money they spent it’s in the people coming back again and again, in a strategy the gambling joints call “playing to extinction.” The gamblers will come back time and again and bet relatively small sums until their money is effectively extinct. This strategy would keep the problem gamblers coming back to spend, which would make up over half of the money made by the casino.
