Presently, electronic media remains unavoidable (Tuning in to Electronic Media, 2011, p.1). We live in an interconnected world with society having a variety of means to communicate and stay connected to one another locally and globally. In addition, electronic media can reach people by the masses. For instance, electronic media notifies the public about world news, advises us of local news and events, provides entertainment, recommends products and even warns the population about potential dangers. Advertising, a major component of electronic media plays a huge role in the U.S economy (Advertising, 2011, p.129).…
From the beginning of time, human civilization has fed upon the circulating world of obtaining, assembling, and broadcasting information upon a wide-spread scale. With sources ranging from the earliest form of publicized word to the current reality of active pictures and dramatic screenplay, society has been infused with an environment of news broadcast. Unfortunately, since the creation of television journalism, the overall goal has shifted from knowledgeable reports to pure entertainment. A platform once used to inform the audience of significant and impacting events has transformed into a network’s obsession with maintaining the audience’s interest. The target is not to keep the public well-informed, but rather to play upon America’s ever-shortening attention spans…

Journalism in the United States has changed over time by newspapers to phones, television, and to computers. “The media are very important.” “How would you know what’s going on without TV, radio, magazines, the internet, or newspapers.” The changes has affected society because of all of the devices and internet. In Amusing Ourselves to Death, Neil Postman discusses “the news of the day”(7), and his opinion on it. Had it not been for the mediums that we get our information from, we would not pay attention to certain stories. He states that the news of the day is simply “a figment of our technological imagination” (8) and without the platform to display it, “the news of the day does not exist” (8). I agree with Postman's view because in my everyday life I choose to get information from not only the people around me, but from media that reports stories from all over the world. I usually start my mornings with local news on television.…

From what I gather, the opportunity consist of profits and pushing agendas, while the concerns raise issues of false pretenses or lack of variety. Medoff and Kaye indicate, only a few voices are heard and the range of information, viewpoints, and opinion is limited through vertical integration (2011, p.69). The federal government has sought to maintain diversity in broadcasting keeping as many voices and viewpoints on the air as possible, yet more difficult to maintain as more cable and online content competes with newspapers and broadcast stations (Business and Ownership, 2011, p.189). The federal government traditionally encouraged diversity of opinion and ownership and discouraged the formation of monopolies, but since the 1970’s, the government has relaxed electronic media regulation thus permitting the market place to decide how electronic media should function in the U.S. society (Business and Ownership, 2011, p.191). Presently, there are no ownership limits on the size of cable MSO’s noted Medoff and Kaye (2011, p.191).…
it is also a cultural shift as consumers seek out new information and make connections among dispersed media content. In the same book, Jenkins discussed participatory media. Ward focuses on whether new media ethics should be created due to the changing of journalism. He is also focused on the different kinds of journalism that exist in this new era. Ward also explains the layers that newsrooms should include to provide new standards to guide journalists into writing their articles. However, the author claims that having layers in a newsroom can bring up questions and create problems for both online and offline journalists. Ward mentions the three different kinds of responses to the questions of what is journalism and who is doing journalism.…

Due to different media forms, New Zealand has experienced numerous transformations over time. There is a range of different media forms such as television and print media, however radio is an important one to be discussed, along with the negative impacts it has brought through the transformations. The transformations include deregulation, privatization and commercialization. It is important to consider how these transformations have then in turn negatively affected the media’s ability to function as a public sphere.…
2.0 Introduction In today’s modern world of technology, there are many new streaming services available from metropolitan networks allowing people from all over Australia to stream from their phones, laptops, tablets, and even smart televisions. As wonderful as this may be for residence who live in regional areas of Australia, it is becoming harder for the regional networks to keep up with the metropolitan networks. “Some dismiss [communication studies] as “fluffy,” or easy” (Frierson, 2012). However, people seem to not understand that a communication studies program can prepare you for a variety of careers.
