Skunk Essay

During the late evening hours when the sun goes down there appears to be a wrenched smell that permeates the entire neighborhood. Sometimes it is so foul I can taste it. Because the alarming smell creeps through the windows and resonates through the whole house it makes it difficult to keep the windows open. What on Earth could be so disgusting? Well, a skunk is the culprit. It just so happens I live in a neighborhood where there inhabits a nearby Wildlife Refuge. Since we live so close to the wildlife refuge we see a variety of animals roaming around the area. This occurs quite frequently. A possum got stuck in our backyard, and I saw a mother skunk and her little ones walking in the street. Wild animals continue to roam the area at …show more content…
This happened to my mother. She didn’t want to spook it because she didn’t want it to spray herself or her car. So of course, she didn’t drive her car that night, and she waited out the skunk until morning. Plus, it is irritating letting our dogs out at night in fear they will get sprayed by a skunk or bitten by a raccoon. One night my dogs had a barking match with a possum. Animals carry diseases and can be aggressive which is why we want to provide a safe environment for community . Plus, it would be nice to have a few nights when the neighborhood doesn’t stink and I am able to have my windows open to enjoy the fresh air. For the most part, the home owners follow the rules except for a few. In the article, Jean-Jacques Rousseau The Origin of Civil Society by Gerald Hopkins it states the following “Each individual, indeed, may as a man, exercise a will at variance with, or different from, that …show more content…
If each homeowner made sure that their trash is safely secured every day, the animals would be less attracted to our area. These animals are just searching for food. They must feed their family just like we must feed our family. Also, If we don’t leave food out for strays or wild animals, they won’t be attracted to the area. Last, we must keep the yard free of debris because animals like to seek shelter in junk. Animals will hide and sleep in larger items that provide shelter so store items in sheds or garages. These rules provide a simple solution to a pesky problem, and if we have to penalize neighbors who disobey. It may fix the problem. With this solution in place, our kids can have a safer outside environment, maybe a less smelly neighborhood, and the wild animals will still have their
