Skull In Hamlet

I would like to start out my explanation of Hamlet and the movie poster I created by discussing the relevant themes illustrated in Hamlet that inspired me. The main theme that I tried to put into motion is the idea of the mystery of death. The play in short, is death- obsessed, shown through the fact that only one main character; Horatio lives through the story. The play is set in motion by the death of King Hamlet, causing the question, what is beyond life? This is the question that Hamlet becomes very familiar with during his internal battle. I have shown this through the use of the skull, and as it is in my mind the main theme I placed it in the middle of the movie poster. This skull, which could represent any of the people who died in …show more content…
The crown on Hamlets skull represents the struggle of power, old to young. The color of the gems in the crown is pink; representing the love that people have for power and the control it gives them of their own lives. The shadow of Hamlets castle is illustrated where the setting of the play is. The cracks going up this shadow of the castle is to show the cracking of their life foundation and that the partaking in these deadly sins has caused this cracking and damage in their lives. The color of these cracks is red; representing hell and that the effect of these sins is a crime against God. I also think that this can illustrate the uncertainty of the ghost of Hamlet, is he a creation from hell? Or is he who really says he is? To top it off there is a death scene shown on the shadow of the castle and for the theatrical effect of the movie poster, you don’t know whose death it …show more content…
I have chosen many of these actors such as Michael Fassbender, because they have a past of playing intense and sometimes rather dark characters (it also helped that he’s good looking). Other charters such as Jensen Ackles where chosen because they have acted in movies/shows that has caused them to play the serious and intense role but they also had to be able to fool around, which in the cause of Hamlet was a must. Finally, I choose some characters because they brought a “look” to the play, such as Julianne Moore playing Queen Gertrude. I believe that on top of being able to play an intense role she also has a regal and elegant aspect to her that is needed in order to play a

In Burton’s portrayal of Hamlet during the ghost scene, the character of Hamlet and the ghost of King Hamlet are more highlighted than the rest of the clips. For example, the lack of scenery and props on stage emphasizes Hamlet’s body language and Hamlet’s voice shift that ranges from thunderous yelling to a moderate conversational tone. In addition, the lack of props displays how Hamlet can roam freely and shows how Hamlet has more free thoughts. Hamlet’s free roaming around the stage emphasizes his character of how he keeps thinking and not acting. The ghost of King Hamlet (portrayed as a shadow) is an important factor in this scene, because it’s colossal size displays the dominance of the father towards the son and emphasizes the contrast between Hamlet and the ghost.…

Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet, features a philosophical depiction of life and death, leading to a tension between reflection and action. Set in the late medieval period, Hamlet as the main character renders a melancholy, contemplative and desperate aura to the entire play as he struggles to avenge his father’s murder by the present King, Claudius. Although this literary piece of Hamlet was written in the 17th century, its timeless plot gives it longevity as its central themes of madness, revenge and the overall mystery of death and the afterlife can still be applied to present day. Franco Zeffirelli’s “Hamlet” portrays a contemporary and naturalistic interpretation, designed to suit a modern audience. By incorporating and omitting scenes and dialogue,…

I believe that Shakespeare’s Hamlet is about mystery and the unknown. Throughout the play, characters struggled with their emotions and actions because of the overbearing sense of uncertainty that always seemed to be present. The play began with a mystery involving the presence of a ghost that “harrow [ed the guards] with fear and wonder” (1.1.53). This sighting led to more uncertainty when Hamlet became unsure if the ghost was an honest spirit or a devil in “a pleasing shape… [that was using Hamlet’s] weakness and… melancholy… [to] abuse [him and] to damn [him]” (2.2.594-597).…

Hamlet is one of Shakespeare’s most honoured and well known pieces of literature that has been studied by many. There is a depth to Hamlet which has caused so many different ways to view and argue the characters and the overthinking in which the book revolves around. The storyline of Hamlet follows a vein of over thinking that begins with the betrayal of his Uncle Claudius when he secretly murders Hamlet’s father – the King of Denmark- then marries Hamlet’s mother and becomes king himself. As Hamlet mourns the tragic death, he finds himself in front of his father’s ghost whom is speaking to him about his murder and how Claudius- his own brother; killed him. This is when Hamlet begins to see madness around him and reflects it in himself.…

Hamlet, a play written by Shakespeare, portrays how the main character, Hamlet, struggled within the metaphorically suffocating box. Hamlet struggles when dealing with the incestuous marriage of Claudius and his mother, the ghost appearing in the night, the crowning of the New King, and his obligations within the kingdom. The metaphorical suffocation represents Hamlet’s feelings towards all the events taken place within the Kingdom of Denmark. Hamlet struggles to “hold his tongue” of the incestuous act of his mother marrying Claudius (1.2.159).…

Imagery is again utilized to show his troubled state of mind. The contemplative Hamlet wonders if it is better to just take the misery that the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” would fire or to “take arms against the sea of troubles” by taking the sleep of death (3.1.3-4). Both contribute in showing how Hamlet believes he is helpless and cannot take any offensive action except to kill himself. He questions who would choose to “bear the whips and scorns of time”, “the pangs of despised love”, “the insolence of office” and other tortures when they don 't have to (3.2.15-19). The way he parallels all of these events gives the audience hint that he has witnessed and endured all of these.…

The ‘gravedigger scene’ in Act 5 of Hamlet is a representation of Hamlet’s existential anxieties as an extension of his melancholy: Hamlet considers the nature of morality and the significance of man as he is confronted with the skull of a former friend who once had form in the physical world but now reduced to an insignificant carcass of skull and bones. The insignificance of man after death is initially portrayed through the frivolity of the clowns as they dig a grave: ‘[Throws up a skull]’, ’[Throws up another skull]’ and “Has this fellow no feeling of his business? A sings in grave-making”. These gestures of disrespect become a mark of the insignificance of the person that was which prompts accumulating questions that reflect the existential…
