Communities are not defined by whether they have good or bad morals. Communities are people with a common interest coming together for the same purpose. This incorporates secret societies such as the Skull and Bones to be considered a community. The Skull and Bones are only found at Yale University. 15 male juniors are chosen each year to replace the seniors for the next year. According to Kris Millegan,¨The story begins at Yale, where three threads of American social history -- espionage, drug smuggling, and secret societies -- intertwine into one¨ ( The order of Skulls and Bones, Millegan ). This secret society is a senior secret society that really takes place after college. These men are thought to be the ones running the government and paying for this country and making sure that everything is going the way they believe it too. The true definition of a community is, ¨ A group of people with common characteristics or interests living together within a larger society¨ ( Merriam-Webster). The secret society Skull and Bones live together for one year and they work together to become a powerful group to rule the government as well and high ranking powers. These men go out into society and get married and have families and live within other communities as well as continual support the Skull and Bone community which they are loyal to. In the book, Conspiracies and Secret Societies it states, ¨old traditions copied from a German student secret society¨ ( Steiger, 439 ). He also quotes from Millegan, and his research of this society. The Skull and bones would, in fact, be a community because of its common interest and strive for the same ideas. Due to the fact that this is a Secret Society the information is very limited and broad, but we can conclude that by definition the Skull and Bones would be a community.
