Skin cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal skin cells which results in tumours, these are either benign (noncancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Skin cancer includes three major types, Basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. The less serious types of skin cancer are Basal cell and squamous cell cancers which make up 95% of all skin cancers, these are also referred to as non-melanoma skin cancers. These skin cancers are curable and can be treated properly if they are treated at an early stage. Basal cell and squamous cell cancer can be treated by surgery, local therapy, radiation therapy, systemic chemotherapy and targeted therapy depending on the type and stage of the cancer. These treatments are usually done by dermatologists who specialize in the treatment of skin diseases. These treatment include different therapies, immunotherapies as well as radiotherapy which can reduced recurrence rates. In the recent years researchers have invented a new melanoma drug, Pembrolizumab which helps to trick the body into attacking the cancer cells is increasing the life expectancy rate of patients. With the help of anti-PD 1 the body’s immune system is tricked into destroying cancer cells. The drug costs $12,000 to $15,0000 per month and has worked exceptionally well for some patients. The drug has helped patients reduce the size of the tumours by 70% however, the immunotherapy has not had any effect on 50% of patients . Further research and trials are
