Skin cancer risks get higher when you have exposure to ultraviolet rays. There are 3 types of cancer: Basal Cell Carcinoma which is the most common type of skin cancer, it is the least harmful of the three. Squamous Cell Carcinoma is a more serious cancer than Basal Cell Carcinoma, this types of cancer can grow and spread all over the body. Malignant Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer. Fair and light skinned people are more susceptible to this cancer because they burn easier. Also infrequent sun exposure that leads to a burn put you at higher risk for this skin cancer also. Basal cell and Squamous cell cancer appear like an open or closed wound that can scab over, appear scaly, bleed easily, or look like shiny bumps. There is a general guide doctors and estheticians use to detect Melanoma, they are called the ABCDE’s of Melanoma detection. A for Asymmetry, B for Border, C for Color, D for Diameter, E for Evolving. To detect skin cancer properly you need to have a good grasp on this concept. Asymmetry the lesion should not be identical on any side. The border should be very irregular and not match up. The are usually dark and have more than one color that fades into one another. Diameter is usually at least the size of a small pea. Evolving they usually change in appearance or look slightly different after some time. There are also precancerous growths called Actinic Keratoses they are commonly mistaken for age spot so they need to be checked by a dermatologist. There are also 3 types of rare cancers. Merkel cell carcinoma it is an aggressive cancer and needs to be treated by a doctor who has had …show more content…
The detection of skin cancer has the best recovery rate when detected early on. Make sure to go see a dermatologist if you have had any of the symptoms described above. The first treatment option for squamous cell carcinoma that is detected early on is a simple removal of the cancer and it’s usually always curable. If however it is left undetected it can metastasize and become fatal. Typical removal is not painful and can be done as an outpatient treatment. Another treatment option is Moh’s micrographic surgery which is done with a small scalpel. They take out the tumor and check the skin with a microscope to make sure the surrounding tissue is healthy. This treatment is used on squamous cell carcinoma at a 95% cure rate. Excisional surgery is done with a scalpel by a physician they remove the tumor and surrounding tissue for clearance. The site is then stitched up and has a 92% cure

Malignant melanoma grows malignant tumors due to DNA damage to the skin cells probable to UV radiation that causes mutations and sets off skin cells to multiply rapidly and form these malignant tumors. Melanomas are closely similar to moles making it difficult for a person to distinguish from a normal mole to a malignant mole or melanoma. Most melanomas are black or brown in color, but some can also be pink, red, purple, blue, or even white.
