Excessive exposure to the sun without sun protection can be life threatening and can increase the risk of skin cancer and premature aging. Skin cancer is one of the greatest causes of death in Australia and approximately 2 in 3 Australians will be diagnosed with a form of skin cancer before the age of 70. The main cause of skin cancer is due to over exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Skin Cancers arise from the skin due to the development of abnormal cells and have the ability to invade or spread to other parts of the body. The purpose of this assignment is to raise awareness to teenagers that unprotected sun exposure is very harmful and can be life threatening.

Significance

Every time you get sunburnt you damage your skin. This damage ages your skin causing wrinkles and increasing your risk of skin cancer greatly. Sun damage to your skin can result in the development of wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, discolouration and texture changes. These effects can make your skin look prematurely aged and visibly damaged. As well as causing superficial change to your skin, sun damage can lead to skin cancer. There are three main types of skin cancer, where each type of skin cancer is named after which cell they grow in our skin. Skin is made up of basal cells, squamous cells and melanocytes. They would value their normal skin, making them have a negative attitude towards tanning, resulting them to be sun smart.
Target group

The target audience of my poster are teenagers because 80% of skin damage occurs before the age of 18. The purpose of my poster is to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive sun exposure to prevent sun damage in the future.
