I have learned new skills like how to properly analyze poetry, and how to do research over topics. All the new skills I have learned will help me in college for when I have to write essays for my classes. This class has taught me to look at things differently, like how to look for relevance and reliability in a source. Having the Craft of Research article that give things to look for in an article to prove it is a valid source to use was very helpful. The article said to look for things like the author, editor, and sponsor. These seem like basic things to include in an article, but once I started looking at online sources for my research essay, I soon realized that not a lot of websites include these things, so there is no way to tell if a source is credible or not. The Craft of Research article also said to look for things like date of publication. If a source is old, it could be outdated and the information could be wrong. Also I learned to look for biases if researching a topic of controversy. I learned that if a topic is controversial then I need to find multiple sources to really get the facts over my …show more content…
The research essay I just completed for comp2 probably taught me the most. It taught me to really read a source, and search for the factors that make it a credible source to use. It also taught me to manage my time, most of our essays before were just analysis of other writings and writers, but this Essay required at least seven pages and a lot of research. By doing all the research and then writing the paper I really learned how to use my time to properly accomplish everything that the essay required, by the time it was due. Comp2 has changed the way I write for the better. Little errors that I would miss, now catch my eye and I know to fix them. And it has taught me to follow MLA

One of these newly acquired strengths is that I have the ability to write an essay that assess other author’s pieces of work. Before this class, I wrote very generic five paragraph essays that let the reader know, that the author of a certain piece of work was a good writer and captivated the audience. Now I am able to state the authors’ purpose and the rhetoric terms that he or she uses to get their purpose across to their audiences.…

I believe I have learned a lot through this process that will help me further my history research, such as carefully analyzing documents and understanding what each document is trying to convey. To investigate my question, I read books by experienced historians, such as Edward E. Curtis, and I analyzed quantitative and statistical history that I got from historical books, autobiographies and public addresses about my question. My sources included commentary and fact based analysis. This helped me with my investigation because I was able to compare the commentary with the facts to determine if my commentary source was reliable.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

The story that I want to share is, the basic yet often talked about transition, between high school and college. Teachers didn’t persist on teaching students good writing habits or the depth of what writing can go into, like they do in college.…

When I began studying at the University of Montevallo, I had a background of high school creative writing and English classes, and one summer of a college English class. To be honest, I was terrified of jumping into my fall English 102 class. I felt I was unprepared for a serious college level composition class, and that I would have a strenuous time adjusting to a four-year university. However, as I walk away from my English 102 class I carry the understanding of writing a college level essay, undertaking research and completing a research and argument paper properly, and knowledge to prepare me for my other classes and profession.…
